Ganga's outstanding quality is that she is good. She is a river goddess - the goddess personified by the largest river in India, in fact. When the people of the world were left without water (long story why) she agreed to fall to earth as a great river, her impact softened by the hair of the god Shiva, to save humankind. Now the river she is said to inhabit is the most revered in India.
